A Bromley Dental Practice for Nervous Patients

A Bromley Dental Practice for Nervous Patients

However afraid you are of visiting the dentist; Smile Dental Practice can help.

If you are sitting reading this blog post thinking that you are more afraid than anyone else about visiting the dentist; please think again.

In fact, it is thought that around a quarter of people in the UK have some degree of fear when it comes to dental visits, so you are not alone.

Of course, for many people, the level of fear is, ultimately, manageable, and, however much they dislike dentists, they will pluck up the courage and go. This helps to ensure that their teeth and gums are kept in good health.

What though, for those whose level is fear is simply too high to be able to do this? Are they to be condemned to a lifetime of poor oral health?

Caring for Nervous Patients

Well, not if the Smile Dental Practice based in Bromley has anything to do with it. Our focus is on preventative dental care wherever possible, and one cornerstone of this is regular dental visits. In the majority of visits, there should be little or no need for any procedures to take place. Sometimes though, it may be necessary.

Once a nervous patient becomes aware that they need some work doing on their teeth, some who have previously managed to overcome their fear and attend, may well fail to keep the appointment for a procedure.

At our Bromley dentists, we understand how dental fears and phobias can be quite debilitating and we are here to help. If you are afraid, rather than simply not attend, we ask you to call us so we can assist you.

What can we do?

In an ideal world, we would like to be able to give you a pill that would take all of your fears away permanently. This though is not realistic and even medication given by a GP will be short lasting.

What we can offer very nervous dental patients from the Bromley area though, is conscious sedation.

This sedation can be administered either via a tablet or intravenously. The effects of these will become noticeable soon afterwards and will last for the duration of the procedure, and for a short while beyond.

Although you will remain entirely conscious throughout the procedure, you will feel very relaxed and have no concerns about the procedure at all. The fact that you are conscious during the procedure is important so that the dentist can discuss any matters which may arise with you.

As well as making you feel completely relaxed, many patients who have had sedation have stated that time seems to pass very quickly indeed and a procedure that took half an hour may seem only like a few minutes.

Through the use of conscious sedation at our convenient local dentist, many patients who would otherwise have put their oral health at risk, can rest safe in the knowledge that they have received excellent dental care.

To ask us about conscious sedation or, if you have any questions arising from your fear of dentists, please call Smile Dental Practice of Bromley on 020 8462 2473.
