Zoom! – Whiter Teeth for our Bromley Patients

Yellow or discoloured teeth can be a thing of the past with this fast acting procedure.

It is a fact, that as we get older, our teeth are no longer as white as they used to be. This can be caused by a combination of things.

Firstly, we are likely to have attained a certain level of staining brought about by our lifestyle. Smoking especially is a major cause of badly stained teeth. Red wine too can cause quite bad staining, as it does on clothes too of course. Other food colourings are also likely to have caused some discolouration to the surface of our teeth.

Even if we have lived an entirely ‘clean’ lifestyle though, the reality is that our teeth naturally darken over time. This factor is unconnected to the exterior enamel of our teeth and is, in fact, caused by a darkening of the molecules within our teeth.

Whitening methods

There are three common methods of teeth whitening used at the moment. Our dental patients from Bromley who have discoloured teeth may like to read these to understand the likely outcomes:

Whitening toothpastes

Despite major advertising campaigns, the reality of these toothpastes is that, due to safety reasons, the actual whitening agent in the paste is only present in very small quantities. Those of us with children will understand why, we are sure.

The downside of this is that any whitening effects seen are likely to be minimal and probably the best role for these pastes is to maintain teeth that have been professionally whitened at the Smile Dental Practice in Bromley.

At home whitening kits

These are available at many chemists and do contain larger quantities of the whitening agent. Even these levels though are not as high as those allowed to be used by professional cosmetic dentists and therefore the same results should not be expected.

Whilst the results will be more effective than the toothpastes; the larger quantity of the whitening agent used means that there are risks attached.

Many of these kits come with trays that fit over the teeth. These contain the whitening agent and, as they can be difficult to fit correctly yourself, there have been cases where users have suffered from burns to the soft tissues of the mouth.

Zoom

At our Bromley dentists we use the highly effective and popular Zoom teeth whitening treatment.

This is a simple and professional teeth whitening procedure which is performed at our practice.

Prior to the procedure, the gums and lips are fully protected and a whitening gel applied to the teeth. A special light is then shone on the teeth which accelerates the work of the gel (It is probably from this part of the procedure that the ‘laser teeth whitening’ tag comes from; it is not a laser!)

Within one hour, the treatment is complete and you will notice a significant improvement in the whiteness of your teeth and feel happy and confident in your smile once again.
