Invisalign Adult Orthodontics

Why patients of The Smile Dental Practice of Bromley are turning to discreet orthodontics.

Many of us will probably have been told, when younger, that we needed to have dental braces fitted to correct our uneven teeth. For a teenager though, the idea of having to wear metallic braces can be quite traumatic.

Whilst some will still have gone ahead and worn them, a significant number will also have declined and taken a chance with their teeth.

The result of this decision is often that, in later life, they have teeth that are crooked and unattractive. This may even result in a loss of confidence and a reluctance to smile.

Modern Orthodontics

The good news for patients at our local Bromley dentist is that, even as an adult, you can still have your teeth straightened. Even better news is that there are now effective alternatives to the old style ‘train track’ braces which also offer a high level of discretion. One of the most popular of these is Invisalign.

Although there are other alternative orthodontic systems on the market, these generally use a similar method to traditional braces but using finer and teeth coloured wiring and brackets to make them more discreet.

Invisalign, however, uses an entirely different method which is almost invisible and also far more convenient that most other types.

Invisalign Procedure

Following your consultation at Smile Dental Practice, a series of x-rays and scans will be taken of your teeth. These are used to produce the Invisalign orthodontics.

The actual orthodontics are made in the form of a number of ‘trays’ which fit directly over the teeth. Each tray is worn for a short period of time, during which it will gradually move your teeth towards the desired position.

Once the first tray has performed its task, it is replaced by the next in the series, which moves the teeth a little more. This process continues until your teeth are correctly positioned.

Each tray is made from a transparent medical grade plastic and is almost invisible in everyday use.

Practical

Invisalign offers a level of practicality that other orthodontics simply can’t.  A major issue with the traditional method of orthodontics is that eating certain foods can be problematic; with food often becoming stuck in the wiring. This can lead to dental decay unless cleaned very carefully.

Invisalign braces however, are designed to be easily removed whilst eating. This makes eating an enjoyable experience and also eliminates potential social embarrassment. The trays should also be removed for cleaning the teeth too.
